St. Patricks Day Festival St. Patrick's Festival - Dates: March 13th to 17th 2008
Patrick’s Festival, the annual celebration of Ireland’s national holiday, boasts its
10th Anniversary
this year with an exciting programme of events highlighting some of the best artistry and flair the country has to offer. From the 16th to the 20th March, audiences can look forward to music, street theatre, fireworks and dance. There’s also a treasure hunt, visual art exhibitions, family fun and of course the best and most eagerly anticipated St. Patrick’s Day Parade in the world.
Listowel Writers Week Listowel Writers Week - Dates: May 28th to June 1st 2008
Writers' Week is first and foremost a festival / institution devoted to the cause of the writer. It essentially aims to guide, direct and enthuse the emerging writer, to befriend the established writer and provide a practical platform for their artistic output. This ideal is achieved through competitions, publication of authors’ work, workshops, seminars, lectures, readings etc. Writers' Week wishes to make the Arts accessible to everybody and to succeed with this ambition we answer with a galaxy of colourful, cultural events of interest to all.
The Cat Laughs Festival The Cat Laughs Festival, Kilkenny - Dates: 31 May to 4 June
Ireland’s favourite festival, The Smithwick’s Cat Laughs Comedy Festival returns to Kilkenny this June Bank Holiday . This festival has rapidly established itself as one of the best comedy festivals in the world. Attracting a host of the best national and international stand-up comedians and comedy improvisers, the comedy festival provides for simple fun and exhilaration. Five days of fun and laughter are guaranteed with over 85 live performances in the relaxing surrounds of 14 of Kilkenny’s best loved venues.
Clonmel Junction Festival
The Clonmel Junction Festival - Dates: July 5th - 13th 2008
The Clonmel Junction Festival is one of the most exciting and fastest growing festivals in Ireland. For nine days and nights Clonmel, Co. Tipperary is transformed and animated by hand painted banners, with flags bedecking the town centre, daily street theatre and free live music events. However the real heart of the festival is in the theatres and music venues which host over 50 performances of top class Irish and International acts.
Galway Arts Festival
Puck Fair - Dates: August 10th, 11th and 12th
Killorglin in the geographical heart of Kerry is the venue for one of Ireland's most unusual street festivals - Puck Fair. The fair is one of Ireland's oldest and longest celebrated and is held without fail on 10th, 11th and 12th August every year with 12 hours of free family street entertainment.
Kilkenny Arts Festival
Kilkenny Arts Festival - Dates: August 8th-17th 2008
Kilkenny Arts Festival 2006 was a huge success. The festive atmosphere infused the streets of this, Ireland's most spectacular medieval city. Over 10 days 235 events took place in and around the city, and around the county. Playing host to Ireland and the world's finest artists, the 30th anniversary festival proved that Kilkenny really is a magical festival, in a vibrant city, and a must for 2006!
Rose of Tralee Festival
Rose of Tralee Festival - Dates: August 22nd to 26th 2008
This is Ireland´s largest ´bash´, the astonishing Rose of Tralee Festival, when the town plays host to the world. The centrepiece is the Rose Competition itself, in which young women of Irish birth or ancestry take part in a unique selection contest for the coveted title of ´Rose of Tralee´.
Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann
Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann - Dates:17th - 24th August 2008
The 56th Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann promises to be the largest showcase of musicians and performers to take place ever and includes showcase concerts, céilithe, parades, pageants, with over 10,000 performers expected to take part in the 'Feast of Irish Music'.
Festival of World Cultures Festival of World Cultures - Dates: 22nd to 24th August 2008
Now in its 6th year the Festival, a Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council event, carves a special groove on the global world music circuit and is Ireland’s foremost intercultural event. With more than 160 events in 40 venues and featuring artists from 50 countries the Festival entertains audiences in excess of 200,000 with its diverse and expanding programme of music, circus, theatre, dance, club nights, markets, exhibitions, workshops and activities for children.
Matchmaking Festival
Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival - Dates: September 1st - October 1st 2008
The Matchmaking Festival takes place every year during September and October in Lisdoonvarna, County Clare, Ireland. The Matchmakers of old were the dealers who attended street fairs, as it was they who know the farmers who had eligible sons and daughters around the country. They invited the farmers from all over Ireland to attend the Festival the following September, and it was they who collected the generous dowries when the matches were made.
Galway Oyster Festival
Galway Oyster Festival - Dates: September 25th to 28th 2008

Galway International Oyster Festival 2007. This unique event is about friends, fun, fabulous seafood combined with World class non-stop entertainment in the charming medieval city of Galway. There are always a few pleasant surprises at the Galway Oyster Festival.

Dublin Theatre Festival
Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival - Dates: 27th September to 14th October

The Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year and promises to exhilarate, challenge and dazzle the world as never before. The 50th Anniversary of the Festival is a major cultural event of national and international significance. Established in 1957, the Festival is the oldest dedicated theatre festival in Europe, and one of the last surviving English language theatre festivals in the world. The 50th anniversary programme is an unprecedented celebration of the performing arts, unlike anything that the city of Dublin has experienced in the past.

Cork Jazz Festival
Cork Jazz Festival - Dates: October 24th - 27th 2008

The Guinness Cork Jazz Festival is Ireland's biggest and most prestigious jazz event and is one of the most important events on Ireland's arts and cultural calendar. This year some 1,000 musicians from 25 countries will entertain the fans in over 75 venues citywide.

Belfast Festival at Queens
Belfast Festival at Queens - Dates: Oct 19th - November 4th
2007 will see the Belfast Festival at Queen's reach its 45th anniversary. Every year, the largest festival of its kind in Ireland brings the best of international art to Belfast and brings international attention to the city's dynamic arts practitioners. The Festival covers all art forms including theatre, dance, classical music, literature, jazz, comedy, visual arts, folk music and popular music, attracting over 50,000 visitors.
Wexford Opera Festival
Wexford Opera Festival - Dates:16th October to 2nd November 2008
For over fifty years the Irish coastal town of Wexford has been seducing the world with wonderful productions of rare opera presented as part of a unique festival. The warm and vivacious welcome, the narrow and ancient Viking streets and the tiny, atmospheric Theatre Royal add to pleasures which include over forty daytime events as well as the eighteen evening performances of three major productions.
