Customer Testimonials

Hi Liz,

I cannot speak highly enough of the service we received from our 3 nights in Ireland.
.
The standard of the accommodation was outstanding and the breakfasts we received were absolutely brilliant.

We hope to come again some day and of course our time in Ireland was by no means enough - we have decided we need at least a couple of weeks in Ireland.

Kind regards and thanks,

Mary Walters, Queensland Australia

About Tinakilly House Hotel

Ti na Coille - House of the Wood - a Victorian mansion steeped in history, Tinakilly was built by the British government in 1883 for Captain Robert Halpin, commander of "The Great Eastern" and mariner supreme who laid 2,600 miles of telegraphic cable in 1866, joining Europe to America. Attracted by the gracious architecture, wonderful sea views and romantic gardens, William & Bee Power decided to purchase and undertake the renovation of what has become one of Irelands most romantic secret hideaways. In the new Millennium, the next generation of Powers took their place at the helm and Tinakilly continues to welcome the guests who return again and again to escape and relax.

An elegant oak-lined avenue leads up to Tinakilly House, which is enveloped by seven acres of pleasure gardens overlooking the Irish Sea and Broadlough Coastal Lagoon. The stunning sea views, romantic gardens and surrounding hinterland of Tinakilly capture but a small slice of the magnificence of county Wicklow. Warmed by the Gulf Stream, the county known as "The Garden of Ireland", boasts exquisite and highly acclaimed gardens such as Mount Usher and Powerscourt. Enjoy a stroll through the 19th century gardens, which have been mapped to include the "Foxes Wood", the "Badger Walk", the rose garden and the herb garden, the tennis court and the croquet lawn. In Captain Halpin's time, there were 20 people working in the rose garden alone! We have a slightly smaller team in the garden these days but we invite you to walk a while and enjoy the serenity.

While Tinakilly is a true reflection of the Victorian period, it's kitchen prides itself on the fine blend of modern and traditional cuisine. Fresh fish, game and Wicklow lamb are provided locally and Tinakilly's own herb gardens supply the kitchen. The menu changes frequently to reflect what is freshly available locally and, in old Irish fashion, all foods including breads, jams, chutneys and preserves are prepared by a highly skilled kitchen staff. An award winning wine list features not only the traditional Bordeaux and Burgundies, but also a broad range of exciting new world wines, which give its cellar a truly international flavour and offers the perfect complement to your meal.
