REVIEW
Originally built as a Rectory in the late 18th century, Crookedwood
House still retains all the character and splendour of that era
and is set in picturesque surroundings overlooking the beautiful
Lough Derravaragh, the reputed home of the mythical Children of
Lir. Situated beside the 15th century Taghmon Church, Crookedwood
House has been tastefully restored and recently extended to include
eight bedrooms, generous in size and tasteful in décor and
finish. Both the sitting room and lounge are warmly decorated and
provide a cosy haven in which to relax over a drink.
Proximity to Mullingar, Esker Hills, Glasson,
Slieve Russell and other golf courses make this is the perfect
golfing destination but a major part of the experience of staying
at Crookedwood House is its superb cellar-style restaurant. Through
owner chef, Noel Brady's, skilled use of meat, game and venison,
accompanied by fresh homegrown vegetables, the Restaurant at Crookedwood
House is regarded as the finest in the Irish midlands. The pervading
atmosphere matches the excellence of the cuisine, while the wine
list is second to none.
