REVIEW
Formerly one of Connemara's most gracious 19th century country houses,
Cashel House today stands as a luxurious hotel at the head of Cashel
Bay in the heart of Connemara and is set in a splendid 50-acre garden
of flowering shrubs and woodland walks. Built in 1840 for Captain
Thomas Hazell, an English landowner, ownership of Cashel House passed
through two more families before being bought by hoteliers, Dermot
and Kay McEvilly in 1967.
Over the years, Cashel House Hotel has gained
an international reputation for excellence as a hotel and restaurant.
Luxury, tranquility and a homely atmosphere created by open turf
fires are the order of the day, while a friendly and attentive
staff caters for the guest's every need. Each of the bedrooms
is tastefully decorated, while the secluded gardens are awash
with the colours and scents of rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias
and magnolias. Guests are free to stroll along the seashore and
savour the experience of walking through the woods and streams
of Connemara and onto the summit of Cashel Hill.
If you're not golfing, fishing, mountain climbing,
hill walking or bird watching, then there is plenty more to occupy
the mind and body. The Aran Islands can be visited via a boat
journey from nearby Rossaveal, while Inishbofin Island can be
explored from Cleggan. Kylemore Abbey and its surrounding countryside
is well worth a visit, while Clifden and the Connemara National
Park are both trips, which must be made when visiting this part
of the country.
