REVIEW
With breathtaking views across the famous limestone landscape of
the Burren, Gregans Castle Hotel is situated at the foot of Corkscrew
Hill and enjoys a splendid view over Galway Bay. The hotel is owner-run
and guests can be assured of a warm welcome by members of the Haden
family and their obliging staff. The Burren is a special place in
Co. Clare, comprises 100 square miles of limestone scenery and is
of huge interest to both the botanist and explorer of historic ruins.
Each bedroom is decorated in relaxing country
house style, while the suites, deluxe and superior rooms are particular
commodious. The quaintly furnished Corkscrew Room is a relaxing
venue in which to enjoy a drink while the drawing room, with its
antique furniture, open fire and bay windows overlooking the landscaped
gardens, is an elegant place to relax. The dining room is extremely
highly regarded and serves excellent cuisine. In fact, the menu
is so appealing, that guests rarely choose to dine elsewhere during
their stay. Locally grown and organic foods complement a range
of dishes including Burren lamb and fresh seafood, while guests
may choose from an extensive wine list, featuring carefully selected
wines from around the world.
The surrounding countryside, with its quiet
country roads and beaches, is perfect for cycling, walking or
horse riding. And with the many other attractions in the vicinity
including the Ailwee Caves, Poulnabrone Dolmen, Bishops Quarter
Beach, Cliffs of Moher and the Aran Islands, it is not hard to
see why Gregans Castle is one of the leading country hotels of
its type in Ireland.
