ACCOMMODATION
REVIEW
Lying no more than 35 minutes drive from the city of Galway, St.
Clerans Hotel is a splendid 18th century Georgian manor house set
on 45 acres of private grounds. The house was once the home of celebrated
film director John Huston, who described the property as "one
of the most beautiful houses in all of Ireland", an apt description
as you will discover in staying here. Acquired by Merv Griffin in
1997, St. Clerans has been tastefully restored to its former splendour
and today stands as one of the finest such accommodations in the
country.
Luxury, tranquillity, a homely atmosphere created
by blazing log fires, original Georgian architecture and an excellent
private art collection are the order of the day at St. Clerans,
while friendly and attentive staff willingly cater for the guest`'s
every need. Each of the deluxe guestrooms is lavishly furnished
in keeping with the period of the house, while the secluded gardens
are awash with multitudes of local and exotic plants. Guests should
make sure to find the time to stroll through the grounds, breath
in the invigorating aromas and enjoy the tranquil setting.
Being located close to Galway City, the vibrant
capital of the West and to the majestic beauties of Connemara,
there is of course plenty more than golf to enjoy in the area.
The Aran Islands can be visited via a boat journey from Rossaveal,
while Inishbofin Island and the surrounding countryside should
also be explored. A visit to Galway City is a must. Known as a
centre of culture and arts, the city offers an abundance of interesting
pubs, shops and restaurants.
