ACCOMMODATION
REVIEW
Situated amidst the spectacular County Wicklow scenery, this period
home was built in 1760 and has been extensively refurbished to recapture
its former glory. The hotel and golf course nestles between the
magnificent Wicklow Mountains and the Blessington Lakes and offers
a truly amazing panorama. The facility may have only recently opened
but it has already gained quite a reputation, with the golf course
playing host to the 2001 Irish Senior Open.
At Tulfarris House, the commitment to providing
the highest standards of service is first obvious upon first entering
the hotel and walking through the lavishly appointed lobby. All
en-suite bedrooms are individually appointed and decorated in
keeping with the period of this stately home. Guests can enjoy
a drink in the scenic Courtyard Bar, enjoy elegant dining in the
restaurant or stroll at their leisure around the splendid grounds,
orchards and perfectly manicured gardens.
When not golfing, fishing or hill walking,
there are many other activities to keep you occupied. Wicklow
offers many items of historical significance, including Glendalough
(Glen of the two lakes), an ancient monastic settlement with two
clear lakes lying in a deep wooded valley, which was carved out
by glaciers during the Ice Age. The monastic settlement at Glendalough
has been a centre for pilgrims and visitors since its foundation
by St. Kevin in the 6th century. Dermot McMurrough, King of Leinster,
founded Baltinglass Abbey in 1148 for the Cistercian Order of
monks and the surviving nave, doorways and tombs make it a very
worthwhile visit. A visit to Powerscourt House and Gardens, Avondale
House, Avoca, Russborough House and Mount Usher Gardens is also
recommended.
