The previous host of the Irish Amateur Open and the Irish PGA Championship, Fota Island is Ireland's second oldest golf course. The course was renovated in 1993, and then again in 1999, and continues to maintain a high standard as one of Irelands premier parkland courses conveniently located adjacent to Fota Island Resort, one of the leading luxury Cork hotels. In more recent history, Fota Island was the host of the Murphy's Irish Golf Open in 2001 and 2002. The Cork golf club will host the Irish Open once again in 2014.
