Knappogue Castle was built in the 15th Century in 1467 by Sean macNamara and is a superb example of a medieval tower house. The Castle stands near the village of Quin in Couny Clare and has a long history from being a battelfield to a stately residence. The Castle became the seat of the MacNamara Clan and remained in their power until 1659 when it was seized by Cromwells parliament, however it was restored to the MacNamara Clan after the monarchy was restored.
The castle is surrounded by a walled garden dating back to the 1817 which has recently been restored to its previous grandeur. Two of the inviting 19th century drawing rooms have also been restored with antiques from the time.
The Castle Medieval Banquet Evening features vibrant programme of music, song and dance saluting the past kings of Ireland. The banquet is a fun experience, you are greeted at the main door of the castle and then proceed to the Dalcassian Hall to intermingle with the entertainers and enjoy a goblet of the honey wine. Music includes Harp and Fiddle players together with medieval choral singing all dressed in the traditional dress from that time period. As you are seated to enjoy your lavish four course meal with the finest wines, the instated Earl receives his sword of office and presides over the proceedings.
This 35 minute display which follows dinner will take you on a magical medieval journey to be enjoyed by all ages. The entire evening lasts two and a half hours and the banquet runs nightly from April to October at 6.30pm and reservations are necessary.
