Your vacation starts at your London hotel at 2:00 pm when you meet your tour director. Head out on an introductory jaunt around some of London’s attractions and visit St. Paul’s Cathedral. In the evening meet your tour director for a welcome drink and briefing followed by dinner. (D)
Today explore London at your own pace on an open-top bus tour to see the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Trafalgar Square and more. You may also take a walking tour and a cruise on the River Thames. Visit the Tower of London to see the Crown Jewels and Beefeaters or Kensington Palace, home of Princess Diana. (B)
Drive through the Cotswolds, a delightful hilly region with mellow-hued stone houses. Take a panoramic tour around Stratford-upon-Avon to see places associated with William Shakespeare. Continue to Liverpool with a visit to The Beatles Story, an attraction that will immerse you in the lives of the “Fab Four.” (B, D)
Travel through the glorious Lake District, stopping in Grasmere to visit William Wordsworth’s home, Dove Cottage. Near the Scottish border explore the Old Blacksmith’s Shop in Gretna Green, a popular shopping stop for quality goods. Drive to your hotel near Edinburgh and enjoy a Scottish Evening with special dishes and lively music. (B, D)
Tour Edinburgh to see the medieval town and the 200-year-old Georgian “New Town”. Walk along part of the Royal Mile where medieval houses are clustered and tour Edinburgh Castle to see the Crown Jewels of Scotland. The afternoon is free for independent activities. On August 7 to 21 departures, experience the world-famous Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. (B)
Travel north to St Andrews, famous for golfing and Scotland’s oldest university. Take a walking tour around the town with your tour director who will tell you about the famous people and happenings here. Visit the picturesque ruins of St Andrews Cathedral. Drive to Inverness, a major town in the Highlands and check in to your hotel beside the River Ness in the center of the town. (B, D)
Travel south through more wonderful Highland scenery, passing the shoreline of Loch Ness. Drive past Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest peak, and through Glen Coe, famous for the Massacre of Glen Coe in 1692. Take a scenic cruise on Loch Lomond, Britain’s largest lake, to admire panoramic views. Drive into Glasgow for a short orientation tour. (B, D)
