18th Century Westport House is privately owned and operated by Jeremy Browne ( The 11th Marquess of Sligo) and his family, who are direct descendants of Grace O’ Malley, the famous 16th Century Pirate Queen of Connaught.

Westport House & Gardens, first opened to the public is 1960, is one of Ireland’s best loved heritage attractions. Designed by the famous architects Richard Cassels James Wyatt and Thomas Ivory in the 18th Century,  the house enjoys a superb estate setting with lakes, terraces, wonderful grounds and wonderful views overlooking Clew Bay, Clare Island, the Atlantic Ocean and Croagh Patrick.

With over 30 rooms open to the public, this house is one of the scarce historic houses in Ireland allowing such access to visitors.  There are numerous architecturally superb rooms on show complete with original furniture and artwork most of which have a long association with Ireland.
