This Best of the Wild Atlantic Way Tour is accessed through Shannon airport and is a 10 night tour based on the highlights of the spectacular coastal route that is the Wild Atlantic Way. The Wild Atlantic Way driving tour is the longest defined coastal route in the world and stretches for 2500km along Ireland’s western seaboard. Along Ireland’s ‘Wild Atlantic Way’ where the Gaelic culture thrives and much of the population still speaks Irish as its first language, it is the people that might distract you from the wonderful sights to be seen. These warm-hearted and friendly communities that dot the landscape will welcome you with open arms and regale you with stories and the history of their areas.
By day enjoy the magnificent scenery including, the Cliffs of Moher, Aran Islands, Killary Harbour and the stark Burren Landscape of County Clare as well as the Dingle Peninsula in Kerry. By night rest your weary bones by a roaring turf fire, accompanied by superb traditional Irish music in one of a myriad of welcoming pubs that dot the Wild Atlantic Way.
This tour includes a night in Galway city which although a world away from the small coastal villages you have visited, is the perfect way to end your tour. Galway is the only large city where you can hear Irish spoken on the streets and is a vibrant city known for its selection of eclectic shops, pubs and restaurants.
Arrive Dublin, Shannon, Knock or Derry Airport and meet with your friendly driver guide. Transfer to Sligo, arriving in time for dinner. Depending on your arrival time, there maybe time for some sightseeing en-route. Overnight Sligo DBB
This morning, play Donegal (Mervagh) Golf Club. The club is an outstanding links golf course designed by the legendary course architect Eddie Hackett and is continually featured in Golf World's Top 100 courses in Ireland and Great Britain. After lunch, travel back to Sligo and visit amazing locations that inspired one of Ireland’s greatest poets, W. B. Yeats. Arrive at your hotel for dinner. Overnight Sligo DBB
Play Rosses Point (Co. Sligo) Golf Club. Situated at Rosses Point, a seaside village eight kilometres North West of Sligo town, it is one of the oldest and best known links courses in Ireland. Founded in 1894, the links are set out on one of the most scenic locations in Ireland. Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on the west; Benbulben dominates the view on the northern skyline and bears a striking resemblance to Cape Town's Table Mountain. The remainder of the day is free until dinner at your hotel. Overnight Sligo DBB
Play Strandhill Golf Club. Situated 8km west of the city of Sligo and nestled under the famous Knocknarea Mountain, this 5675 meters (6206 yards) of undulating fairways and unforgiving short cuts makes it a course to remember. The player can also enjoy an uninterrupted view of spectacular scenery made famous in song and story. Christy O'Connor Snr described the course as 'The hidden jewel of the West'. Overnight Sligo DBB
After breakfast, check out of your hotel & head to Enniscrone Golf Club. This links course reflects a marvellous empathy with the majestic duneland, superb greens and wonderful scenery that abounds. It has been said that the present championship course at Enniscrone now represents as fine a test of links golf as one can find anywhere. After playing, continue around the coast to the heritage town of Westport. Overnight Westport DBB
Today is a free day to enjoy the surrounding area, just relax in the hotels grounds, take a walk down the elegant tree-lined Mall with its stately Georgian buildings and have dinner at one of Westport’s many restaurants. Alternatively, spend some time at Westport House & Gardens, one of Ireland's most significant historical homes. Built in 1730 - on the ruins of one of legendary Pirate Queen Grace O’Malley’s 16th Century castles - and complete with original antiques, dungeons, wax work displays and two comprehensive educational exhibitons - it is home to her direct descendants: The 11th Marquess of Sligo and his family. Overnight Westport BB
This morning we head south to Connemara, stopping at Kylemore Abbey, the oldest of the Irish Benedictine Abbeys. The Victorian walled garden was constructed at the same time at the Castle and is one of the finest examples of its type in Ireland. Continue around the stunning Connemara region with its unspoilt scenery for an afternoon tee time at Connemara Golf Club. This awesomely picturesque 72 par course with breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean was designed by Eddie Hackett and measures 7,229 yards from the back tees. Wind and rainbows are the specialty of the house at this course which was started in 1973. The back nine has been described as "the equal of any in the world." Greens set high in the hillside on the 14th and 15th can be unnerving, particularly after the very short but testing 13th. Overnight Galway DBB
Today we shall head to the west coast to visit the spectacular Cliffs of Moher and the unique landscape of The Burren, an area composed of limestone hills that are home to many rare flowers as well as the Poulnabrone Dolmen and the Ailwee Caves, Ireland’s largest cave complex. Continue on to Bunratty Castle and Folk Park where 19th century life is vividly recreated. This evening, enjoy a farewell Bunratty Medieval Banquet at the castle. Overnight Bunratty or Limerick BB
After a final Irish breakfast, travel the short journey to Shannon Airport in time for your return flight.
