Travel through Connemara to Leenane and embark on a catamaran cruise around Killary Harbour, Ireland’s only fjord. As you sip an Irish coffee, see remains of houses and potato patches abandoned during the 1840’s Famine as well as stunning scenery. Visit Kylemore Abbey, a stately mansion in a tranquil lakeside setting. Take a walking tour around Cong to see movie locations of the 1952 production of “The Quiet Man.” In the evening drive to the nearby village of Clonbur for an informal dinner with local entertainment at Eddie’s Pub. Visit the Museum of Country Life to view exhibits of domestic goods. In County Sligo enjoy lunch at Broc House with a talk on the Nobel Prize-winning writer, W. B. Yeats, by a local expert and tour the region to see places associated with his writings. Check in to Harvey’s Point Hotel, in a lakeside setting near Donegal town. (B,L,D)
Drive to the Slieve League sea cliffs for awesome views and enjoy coffee or tea with home-baked scones. Drive via Glengesh Pass and through the mountainous country of Donegal, renowned for its wool production. In Ardara see demonstrations of spinning, weaving and knitting at Triona Design. (B,D)
Learn about Derry’s history as you walk along the medieval walls. Pause for photos at Dunluce Castle before visiting the Giant’s Causeway, enormous columns formed over 60 million years ago. Experience wonderful views along the “Nine Glens of Antrim.” In Belfast check in to your elegant Victorian hotel and enjoy dinner in the 19th century Great Room Restaurant. (B,D)
A local guide will show you the highlights of Belfast, including the shipyards where RMS Titanic was built in 1912. Visit Titanic Belfast to learn about this famously ill-fated liner. Drive past the Mourne Mountains to Dublin, check in to your hotel and enjoy a fun evening with dinner and a traditional show at a popular Dublin venue. (B,D)
