Tour Overview

‘Excellent’

Start your knitting tour of Ireland in the historic city of Dublin where you will have the opportunity to see Trinity College Library and the famous Book of Kells before visiting the Constant Knitter, a local yarn store to meet a craftsperson for a short demonstration on their craft topic and informal chat.  On your second day in Dublin you will meet Lisa from ‘This is Knit’ for a knitting class on the Moebius Knitting method.  A highlight of your tour may well be the trip to Inis Mor, the largest of the Aran Islands where we will experience traditional knitting and crafts with Una McDonagh. Continue to County Mayo where you we will visit the Museum of Country Life, an informative museum which displays the way of life of rural Irish people from 1850 with a strong focus on traditional crafts and trade. In Donegal, we visit Donegal Yarns and Studio Donegal, a hand-weaving and clothing manufacturing business, the stunning Slieve League Cliffs, Glencolmcille Folk Village along with enjoying a workshop with Irish designer Edel MacBride. The following day discover Ireland’s famous Causeway Coast, visiting the Giant’s Causeway and Dunluce Castle. See Belfast City and explore the famous Titanic Belfast museum and Mourne Alpacas. Before you return to Dublin for your final overnight, enjoy a spinning and tapestry workshop with Aine Dunne and pay a visit to the Irish Linen Museum for a guided tour.

Day 1 - Arrival in Ireland

Shannon Airport is the ideal international airport to fly into as it is only 2 hours drive to the heart of the South West, whereas Dublin Airport is a 5 hour drive. For those arriving from the U.K. or Europe Kerry Airport is only 15 minutes drive and Cork Airport is a 1.25 hour journey. Collect your rental car or meet with your driver. Transfer to your hotel in Killarney. Today is a free day to settle in and get over the jet lag. Alternatively we could arrange for an additional round today at Dooks Golf Club or at Killarney Golf Club, Mahony's Point Course.

Day 2 - Waterville Golf Club

Travel half way round the spectacular Ring of Kerry to Waterville Golf Club. In 1999 at a ceremony during the now famous Ryder Cup in Brookline Massachusetts, Payne Stewart accepted the Captaincy of Waterville – the last golf honour he would receive before his tragic death. Today a life sized bronze statue pays tribute to his Captaincy and his special relationship with Waterville.
Overnight in Killarney

Day 3 - Tralee Golf Club

Designed and built by Arnold Palmer, this stunning setting represents a true paradise for those willing to challenge what is widely acclaimed as one of the finest links courses in the world. Smitten at first sight, Palmer would later go on record with this memorable quote: “I may have designed the first nine, but surely God designed the back nine”. It comes as no surprise to learn that, due to the majestic beauty of this setting, Palmer choose Tralee Golf Club to be his first and, arguably, his finest golf course in Europe.

Day 4 - Ballybunion Golf Club

Ballybunion Golf Club - Old Course : "Having played the Old Course in Ballybunion many times since my first visit in 1981, I am now of the opinion it is one of the best and most beautiful tests of links golf anywhere in the world." Tom Watson - Millennium Ballybunion Captain and 5 time British Open Winner. Overnight back in Killarney

Day 5 - Killarney Golf Club, Killeen Course

Nestled amongst the splendour of the famous lakes of Killarney and with the spectacular backdrop of the MacGillycuddy Reeks, Ireland's highest mountain range, lies three unique Championship Courses to challenge you. Of these the Killarney Golf Club, Killeen Course is the most challenging. Nick Faldo, on winning The Irish Open in 1991, was one of only three players to finish under par. Overnight in Killarney

Day 6 - Lahinch Golf Club

Depart Killarney this morning and head north to take a short ferry ride across the River Shannon into County Clare and on to Lahinch. Lahinch Golf Club is frequently referred to as “the St. Andrew’s of Ireland” because of its close proximity and interaction with the local village. The links is situated on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean.
Overnight in Lahinch or in the town of Ennis. For those taking the deluxe option spend the night at the magnificent Dromoland Castle.

Day 7 - Doonbeg Golf Club

Doonbeg Golf Club plays along 1.5 miles of beach and dunes with the ocean visible from the green, fairway, or tee on 16 of the 18 holes. Greg Norman, who designed the course said, "This is a course I want to be identified with, one I will be able to say with pride, 'I did that one.' I am the luckiest designer in the world . . . because of the uniqueness of the site." Overnight in Lahinch

Day 8 - Return Home

Depending on where you stay you will have between 10 minutes to a 1 hour drive to Shannon Aiport.
