Tour Overview

‘Excellent’

This tour covers some of the most spectacular scenery that Ireland has to offer. Shortly after leaving Killarney you will find yourself cycling between the majestic lakes that have made this area so famous to be shortly followed by a climb up to Molls Gap with its wonderful views of the Macgillycuddy's Reeks, Ireland's highest mountain range. The rest of the week involves more of the same stunning scenery with a wonderful coastal cycle along Kenmare Bay and the twisted mountains of the Beara Peninsula. On the rest of the day we relax in the pretty fishing village of Castletownbere where you can take a boat ride to Bere Island or cycle out to the ruins of nearby Dunboy Castle. Towards the end of the week we head inland and stay at a beautiful lakeside retreat at the source of the River Lee. On the final day we cycle up over the wild and isolated hills of the Coolea region before returning to Killarney.

Tour itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive Dublin

Arrive Dublin Airport and meet with your experienced Irish driver/guide. All of the drivers we use are qualified guides and have great personalities that really will make your trip unforgettable. Travel into Ireland’s capital city and visit Trinity College which houses the famous Book of Kells, transcribed by 9th century monks. Continue on to a more modern attraction, The Guinness Storehouse, which tells the 250 year story of one of Ireland’s greatest exports. At the end of the tour, sample a pint of “The Black Stuff” whilst enjoying 360 degree panoramic views of the city from the Gravity Bar. After checking into your hotel, the remainder of the afternoon is free for individual sightseeing. In the evening, why not enjoy dinner at one of Dublin’s superb restaurants followed by an evening’s entertainment at one of the lively pubs. Overnight Dublin BB

Day 2 - Dublin Cookery School

Housed in dazzling purpose-built premises, the bright, spacious kitchens of the Dublin Cookery School are the perfect setting for novice cooks and seasoned chefs alike. With 12 fully-equipped workstations, complete with hobs and ovens, students learn tricks of the trade in a supportive and challenging environment. As they say themselves, ‘serious food in a relaxed atmosphere’. The course list is extensive, including fish and bread courses, barbecue, entertaining, Californian cuisine, teen friendly courses and many more. This, combined with Lynda Booth's exuberant style and the fabulous space, makes for a seriously fun learning experience. Overnight Dublin DBB

Day 3 - Ballyknocken Cookery School

Depart Dublin after breakfast heading south into County Wicklow, known as the Garden of Ireland. Enjoy the stunning scenery on your way to the ancient monastic settlement at Glendalough, founded by St. Kevin in the 6th century, before traveling to Ballyknocken Cookery School near Ashford. Under the guidance of TV chef Catherine Fulvio, many courses are available including Easy Entertaining, BBQ and Outdoor Dining and Cheating with Vegetables to mention but a few. Return to Dublin for a farewell Irish House Party dinner & traditional show of Irish music, dance & humour. Overnight Dublin BB

Day 4 - Depart Dublin

After breakfast, visit The Old Jameson Distillery. Explore the distillery’s history and find out about the legend that is John Jameson. You'll be able to impress your friends with the fascinating facts behind the smooth Irish Whiskey’s journey from barley to bottle. Most of all you'll surprise your friends with your discerning palate and boundless, newfound knowledge. Following the visit, transfer back to Dublin airport for your return mid-afternoon flight home.

Notes

  • Distances
The average cycling distance is an easy 30m (45km) with longer routes being available most days. The tours are suitable for adults of all ages, but a certain level of fitness is required and taking in a few practice rides is strongly recommended. The tours are not suited for children under 13 years of age. The Ring of Kerry, the Highlands of Donegal and the Antrim tours have more hills than the other routes and are more suited to the keener cyclist.

  • Meals
Your guide will recommend a lunch stop each day where a snack lunch will cost between €8 and €12. A group evening meal is organised by the guide each night which costs between €18 and €25. One evening meal during the tour is included in the tour price.

  • Your Bicycle
We supply 18-21 speed hybrid touring models for your tour. Each booking must give your name and approximate height. Repair equipment, helmets and pannier bags are available on request.

  • Starting Times
Each of the tours start with a meeting group at 6:30pm on the Saturday evening in a central hotel close to the local train station and bus station. This is only a meeting point, typically the group will be staying in nearby guesthouses. The guide is able to return to the meeting place at 9:30pm again that evening and the following morning for those arriving late. After an introductory talk the guide will organise an evening meal and direct you to your first nights accommodation.

  • Insurance
There is an additional charge of €35 for insurance cover. We insist that riders avail of our insurance policy or else have alternative cover in place

Prices in other currencies are indicative only. Please note that we charge in Euro.
